How to take screenshots - Windows

This article will show the various methods of taking screenshots in Windows 10.

Method 1: Use Win + Print Screen

In this method we use the two buttons in the keyboard to take screenshot of the screen. You cannot select what region to take screenshot with this method.

 Instructions

  1. Click Win + Print Screen button from your keyboard.

  2. Now the screenshot will be saved in your screenshot folder.

  3. Go to file explorer in you desktop and click on the Pictures folder.

  4. You will see a folder named Screenshots, your screenshot will be in that folder.

Some keyboards might have shortened the word “Print Screenshot” depending on the size of the keyboard. Look for the words prt scrn or prnt scrn in your keyboard. The button is usually on the top row above backspace or after the F12 button.

Method 2: Use Win + Shift + S button

In this method we use the three buttons in the keyboard to take screenshot of the screen. The screenshot will be saved in your clipboard which means you can paste it without saving it. You can select what region to take screenshot with this method.

 Instructions

  1. Click Win + Shift + S button from your keyboard.

  2. You will be prompted to select the entire screen or draw your own region.

  3. After you have made the selection, the screenshot will be automatically copied in your clipboard.

  4. You can paste it in word or paint or your email automatically without the need to save it.

  5. To save the file and use it as an attachment in an email, please open Microsoft Paint and paste it and save it. Or you can simply click on the notification that pops after the selection.

Method 3: Use Snip and Sketch app

In this method we use the Snip and Sketch app to take screenshot of the screen. You have the option to either copy the screenshot into your clipboard or save it to use it later. You can select what region to take screenshot with this method.

 Instructions

  1. Open the Snip and Sketch app in your computer. Click on the start button and search for the said app.

  2. Click on the new button from the top left corner in the app.

  3. The system will pop you for free selection or window and screen selection.

  4. After you have selected the region, you can edit using the tools provided.

  5. You can click on the Save button to save the screenshot and the Copy button to copy the screenshot to your clipboard. Clipboard items are temporary and will be lost after another item is copied.
